Tee Haus Delmenhorst
Not far from the Northern city of Bremen is the small town of Delmenhorst. Otherwise rather a dead place, this here entrance to the tea house at least promises a nice time, doesn´t it?
Push My Pecker
…the woodpecker door handle of course! What did you think?
This door was found in Lesum, Bremen. It´s adorable, isn´t it?
German Doors
All these doors I found in Bremen, Northern Germany and most of them are in the old Ostertorviertel, an artsy quarter not far from the city center. Rather romantic, no? I like, I hope you too!
One Town- Many Doors
These doors were taken in a small town outside of Berlin with the name König Wusterhausen where King Frederick the First had a small summer castle during the 18th cent. Later socialism did its bit, but it has been nicely redone in the 90s. The doors could not have been more different. Imagine if all our doors looked the same?
Doors in da boonies
Ok door darlings, I am back and I am in Berlin again. So from now on, you will get a mix of Indian and German doors. I hope you will stay tuned. Best wishes from yours Truly
Once Upon a Time in the East
Ok I am still in India, but I thought you door darlings might need a break from these Delhi doors. Before I came here, I visited a small town near Berlin in what was once the infamous East Germany. A town called Nauen. 15000 people call it their home. It has a very old, but charmingly delapitated town centre straight out of a WWII movie with very old timber frame homes etc. You can see them on my flickr site www.flickr.com/bfriendly. But here, as always, just a few doors for you to enjoy. Remember I like´em old and sleezy. Enjoy!

People still do live here

Doppelt hält besser, double the fun when you have 2 opportunities to break in

Worn but inviting

Pretty door with letterbox that begs to be filled
Door detail in Nauen probably anno 1950
The Doors in My Life (Rented)
If you want to see me, you must pass through 4 doors currently. Or I have to open 4 doors to get to where I can be me and free, in my flat in Berlin: 1 room living. Old apartment houses (4 stories) in Berlin always have a front building and at least 2 side wings attached in the back. The front flats were a bit more posh, with a balcony, and the back ones cheaper because darker and damper. You reach the back wings through a court yard. So just for the fun of it, I thought I show you the not so pretty doors in my daily life, perhaps their drabness accounts for my joy when seeing “real doors”. What do you think, darlings?!

Door No 1 to enter my apartment house

Door number 2 is always open except during snow storms

Door Nr 3 leads to right wing, with right door to the flats, leftdoor into basement dungeon

Door No 4 is, alas, the entry to my rented flat, 1 room, kitchen, bath.Do you like the color scheme?

Door Nr 5 is inside my chambers where yours truly works and sleeps, this door too is always open
A Door Utopia and Doors of Power
Hi darlings, more door views if you dont mind .
As I was strolling through Berlin today around the big avenue of Unter den Linden I spotted, how can it not be so, a few more incredible doors. But as I saw more and more of that type of opulence and splendor (see photos), I suddenly realized how not only magnificant but how very intimidating these huge entrance ways are and probably meant to be so. As powerful architecture, an imposing door really makes the person, who has to enter, feel pretty small. And if such a door (more…)
Iron, Wood and Glass: Continental Doors
Here some doors in the Germany, except for one seen in Strassbourg (FR). Two are from Heidelberg, one from Speyer and one from Wiesbaden. What splendid craftmenship! Aren´t they awesome, door darlings?

As good as they get
Dublin Door Medley

One of the few "white" doors I have seen in Dublin

I like them old and sleezy too
I spent 3 months on the Green Isle and Dublin is of course famous not only for a good Guinness, but its colorful doors. After walking those Dublin Streets again and again it finally dawned on me why the painted doors. My guess: if your entrance did not show a certain color, you´d never find your home again. Rows and rows of brick houses, 3 – 4 stories in the posh South Dublin or rows of rows of brick homes, 2 stories, in the poorer North Side of Dublin. You may have seen similar phenomenon in Philadelphia or Baltimore. Well, when all the houses look the same, you got to make yours distinctive. That is my take on the whole thing about the colorful doors of Dublin.

Blue and yellow makes green. This couple is not far from Dame Street
