Doors of Heaven and Hell
Hello, Darlings! You have probably been wondering all this while, why I am not giving you the whole spiel about the history of doors. Well, first of all, I know that you hate to read too much and in any case, other people have written about it already so nicely, so google it, if you please. But there is, for example, a good site by a UK door maker who gives a detailed history of doors in Britain and Western Europe period by period on his web site:

Or grab the Encyclopedia Britannica that is catching dust on your bookshelf and read about it. Of course doors go back much farther than medieval times. They were used in Egyptian tombs, and if you look into the Old Testament and read 1 Kings chapter 6, you will find out that good old Solomon had already thought about doors for his temple 3000 years ago. Apparently keeping the flies out has been on people´s mind for a long, long time !
Speaking of the Old Testament. In 1425 in Florence, Italy, a sculptor by the name of Lorenzo Ghiberti created a door even Michelangelo called “Gates of Paradise” for its beauty and splendor. It was of course a door for a church, and it took 27 years to create it. Made of gilded bronze, the door panels depict Adam and Eve, Jacob and Esau, and David Golliath. I like the photo from a flickr member the best, but there are many sites showing this incredible Renaissance masterpiece:

Some of you might be more interested in the doors to Hell, mentioned for example in the New Testament in Matthews 16:18. Naturally they can be found on the internet, here are some from a blog presented by the interesting magazine “mental floss“:
Pretty liquid, eh? Funny how there are only doors TO hell, not OF hell. You´ve told people to go to hell, no, but since there do not seem to be signs of return, that´s why there must not be any doors of hell
How come we dont wish “happy entrance to paradise ” for the people we love, only hell for the ones we despise? So much negativity in this world!

The Cemetary entrance being the last door in your life: if only we knew if it leads to heaven or hell
